Consider the transformation shown in the picture below.

  1. Describe in words what transformations occur to get from the original to the image.
  2. Create a transformation rule (or rules) that can be used to transform the points of the original to points of the image.
  3. Where would lower right corner of the cartoon be if the original had been rotated 90° clockwise about the origin and then reflected across the x-axis?

  1. The picture was reflected about the x-axis and then translated right 14 and up 11.
  2. Looking at the lower right corner of the original picture, the coordinates are (−5, 4). That corner first moves to (−5, −4) by reflection and ends at (9, 7) by translation. So the transformation rules appears to be followed by .

  3. Let's see. The point (−5, 4) would first go to (4, 5). Then reflecting across the x-axis the point would land at (4, −5).
